Zuerst mein Englisch begnadigen. Ist nicht mal meine 2. Sprache ... Nun, ich muss mich mit anderen Lesern über die physische Qualität des Buches einig sein. Es ist schlecht. Ich habe es noch nicht gelesen, aber es ist sicher schwierig, den Ideen von Herrn Parfits zu folgen. Ich war auf der Suche nach etwas mehr Essenz und weniger Theorie, also ist es sicher nicht das, was ich erwartet hatte. Wie gesagt, muss es noch fertig sein. Sicherlich kein leichter Vortrag ... 80er Jahre-Philosophie at its best

Parfit befasst sich zunächst mit dem Charakter philosophischer Theorien und später mit Personen beziehungsweise der Personalität. Das Vorgehen soll analytisch sein, atmet aber den Geist seiner Zeit. Viele Beispiele, die in den 1970/80 er Jahren noch interessant klangen, erscheinen heute absurder denn je, etwa die Gedankenspiele zu Hirntransplantationen. Gleichwohl ist die Fülle der Ideen auch heute noch erfrischend.

As someone who is very intellectual and studied a degree in AI, i struggled with this book

As someone who is very intellectual and studied a degree in AI, i struggled with this book. After first few pages it was clear the author is well qualified to write this book but where this book takes me is exactly where i dont want to be - in my head. I stopped reading after the first few pages probably the first time in my path that i have done that. Interestingly, this book was a recommendation by a reviewer who gave a 1 star review for the book i was looking to buy through another recommend
